Child Suffering From Cold And Was Prescribed Ambrolite D. Does The Medication Have Any Side Effects?

Hi my child is suffering from cough since 2 weeks now.Her ped prescribed her a syrup called Ambrolite D to be given 3 mg twice a day.However I just came across an info on the net that cough syrups that contain detoxymetharpine ,sorry for spell mistake, can be deadly for kids and it does contain that. So should I be continuing this.My daughter is 20 months old and weighs 12 kgs.
