Child Has Fever. Given Tylenol. How Much Nurofen To Give?

Hi, my 34 month old (14kg) has armpit temp 39.4 for past 20hrs. have given 125mL Tylenol suppost. at 9:30 pm, 3:30am and at 9:30am. Her temperature has not gone down. I was thinking to try giving Nurofen (but only have the adult tabs of 256mL) but am not sure how much to give and how soon. can I crush part of a tab to give her? how much? Thank you.

Hi

Dose of Acetaminophen syrup- Tylenol is 15mg/ kg/ dose repeated every 6 hours.
Since she weighs 14 kgs, she will need approximately 200mg per dose.
Check the strength of the medication per 5 ml and give the dosage needed accordingly.
Dosage of suppository will be the same.

If fever does not subside, you may give one or two doses of Ibuprofen (Nurofen) in between. Dosage will be 7.5 mg/ kg/ dose.
Since she is 14 kg by weight, she will need approximately 100 mg per dose. Check the strength of the syrup and give the needed dosage accordingly.

Do not overdose both.
You may give 1 or 2 doses of Nurofen in a day, leaving a gap of at least 1 hr between Tylenol and Nurofen.

How ever if fever persists, child is tired/dull, oral intake is poor- please do not hesitate to contact your doctor immediately.

Best wishes.
