Brief Answer:
Treatment for hypothyroidism is lifelong.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Treatment for primary hypothyroidism should be continued all the time.

Dose adjustments during treatment should be done according to degree of improvement, body weight, appetite, heart rate and blood pressure.

There is need for TSH measurements periodically.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

what if the T3 and T4 readings are normal but patient diagnosed with hypothyroid with reading as 8.04?

Also will this impact pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
If controlled thyroid function, pregnancy goes okay.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for asking back.

By 8.04 you mean TSH level, I assume.

TSH level is high as a compensatory mechanism to maintain normal T3 and T4.

If thyroid function is maintained in normal ranges, pregnancy should go well.

Cause of hypothyroidism should be assessed.

For this purpose there is need for a complete thyroid gland evaluation by a Endocrinologist.

Hope this helps. Best regards.

On Consulting with doctor here, they are calling this as sub-clinical hypothyroid since T3 and T4 are normal. In actual Hypothyroid TSH will impact T3 and T4. In this case since its normal, they term this as sub-clinical and can be cured.

May not need a life long treatment. Do you agree to that?

Also is this a life-threatening disease?

Brief Answer:
Treatment and follow up needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.

Long term treatment and follow up for subclinical hypothyroidism is needed, because it contains the risk of developing into hypothyroidism.

Potential risks are related to cardiac damages and lipids increase, so there is need for these two possible complications to be evaluated as well.

Hope I helped you. Wishing good health.
