Need An Alternate Medication For Suboxone Film. Have Burning In The Mouth And Tongue
My question is concerning the Suboxone Film. Are there other options for my sister? This medication is burning her mouth, lips and tongue. She can't eat anything because she says it feels like sandpaper. The Suboxone tablets were fine. They stopped distribution of the tablets in March. She needs the medication but this is a horrible side effect.

Thanks for your query. Suboxone is buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist used for detoxification and long term maintanence on opioids post detoxification. The two main formulations are sublingual tablets and transdermal formulations. The only other formulation is an implantable formulation (probuphine) which can be tried for your sister. It will not result in side effects like burning sensation etc. Wish her good health.
