RN, How To Clarify If The Bladder Prolapse Is A Rectocele Or Cystocele ?

I am an RN and am pretty sure I have a bladder prolapse; not sure if it is a rectocele or cystocele. What specialist should I see, my GYN or a Urologist. If surgery is necessary what is the average hospital stay and what is the approx. time I would be out of work. I do homecare and the only thing I have to carry is a 20 lb. digital baby scale.
I am soon to be 60 had 3 vaginal births in my 20's and a hysterectomy prior to having a bladder repair in my 30's not for a recto or cystocele: they were 2 different surgeries 2-3 yrs apart. 3 yrs ago I had part of my small intestines removed due to the fact that it had dropped down and adhered to my vaginal cuff. Just trying to give you enough info to help answer my question.

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Depending on whether you have a cystocele or a rectocele, the average stay in a hospital would be from 3-7 days, usually not longer unless complications crop up.

Bed rest would then be advised for another 2-3 weeks. I would say one month all-in-all, till you can get back out there and work. Even 20 lb would be advised against during the recovery period. Physiotherapy and pelvis exercises would also help to promote healing and reduce recovery time.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
