Will Steam Inhalation Relieve Sinus Headache And Any Side Effects?

my son,11 yrs old, catches cold very often and suffers from nasal congestion and sinus headaches.can i give him steam inhalation and for how long ?is there any side effect if i give him steam inhalation for a prolonged period to relieve the sinus headache?

I can understand the pain your son is going through. Though if such patient comes to the clinic, I often advice for the steam inhalation, there is no ill-effect of steam inhalation, else it will help out in clearing the nasal passage. You can give him steam for 1 to 2 minutes continuous on a single stretch and repeat for at least 3 to 4 times and twice a day.

Make sure that your son is not going out in exposure to direct blow of air, cold weather just after steam inhalation. he should remain in the cozy temperature environment at least for 15 mins to 20 mins after steam.there is no specific side-effect of steam inhalation in cases of sinusitis or sinus headaches. Hope your son will be fine soon.
