Hi,

Not much studies are there to evaluate the effect of Azathioprine on lipid levels independently. However, effect of Azathioprine on cholesterol level has been evaluated in patients undergoing renal transplantation. Increased levels of Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, VLDL and triglycerides have been seen, in 30-60% of total such patients. Though, the effect of increased levels of cholesterol in patients on Azathioprine, needs a further evaluation, still, one thing is very clear, that there is not any cholesterol lowering effect of Azathioprine at least.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
