Will Levonelle Taken 81 Hours After Intercourse Result In Pregnancy?

Hi there, Just need some quick advice. I was very careless and had unprotected sex, thing is i look Levonelle 81 hours after intercourse! I had sex 4 days after my period so im not sure if I would have been ovulating. Also I am still experiencing low dull ache (quite similar to my period pain) just lasting longer then normal. I look forward to your reply in this matter, thank you.

Hello and welcome,

Please do not worry so much. If you had sex 4 days after your period [ assuming that you bled for 4-5 days] then it is day 8-9 of your menstrual cycle which is a less fertile period in most cases. So chances of ovulation are less. If there is pain then it may be due to trauma from sex or an infection or levonelle and if it does not go away with a simple analgesic like acetaminophen then you will need an evaluation.

Levonelle must be used within 72 hours of unprotected sex to provide protection. It acts by making the cervical mucus thick and so does not allow sperms to go up. Also it prevents a baby from attaching to the mother if there is a pregnancy. If it has been taken late it may or may not help. We cannot comment upon this now.

So please do not worry. The chances of pregnancy are very low.
