After I experience a orgasm I develop a strong odor and it seems to stick with me for close to a week even after I douche and wash thoroghly. What could be causing this ? I have had a partial hysterectomy and am 45 yrs old. Never used to have this until just recently.
During sexual intercourse, a discharge is secreted by glands situated under the labia majora. These glands are known as Bartholin's glands. This discharge is having typical odor which is person specific and is supposed to be erotic and sexually stimulating in nature. You can confirm this by taking the discharge on your fingers during sex and smelling it. Such odorous discharge need not be an issue of concern, provided it is not mixed with pus which indicates infection.
High protein diet also makes the odour of this discharge more strong. Also please look for any evidence of diabetes which may cause subclinical infection and give offending odour to the discharge. Please report to your gynaecologist to look for any evidence of infection and/or diabetes.
If infection is present, you will need antibiotics treatment. If not, you may ignore this odour. Diabetes if present will require special attention. However, using deodorants is not advised in the area of private parts.
I hope this helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
