What Medication Can I Take For Coughing As Palatoglossal Arch Pains?

I had a cough for few days already... and now my left palatoglossal arch hurts so bad...whenever i try to swallow the right side arch doesn t hurt much, but the left side hurts. It hurts so bad that the pain even extended to my left ear. I tried looking at it with a flashlight and mirror, I see that it is very red...it must have been due to my coughing...but can you please help me take the pain away?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. The palatoglossal arch may seem inflammed and hurt when you try to swallow if it has suffered injury due to hard food or little burn while swallowing too hot food or drink.

It may heal in a few days on its own. You may take soft and cold foods and drinks for a few days. In addition, you can topically apply Mucopain (Benzocaine Gel) to the area 3-4 times a day specifically before meals that will help in ease of pain while swallowing as well as will help in faster healing.

If it does not get resolved in a week or you feel pain that is worsening, then you should visit a dentist for physical examination of the area.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
