What Is The Treatment For Sore Throat , Runny Nose And Chest Congestion?

I have been sick for over a month now. My first "cold" started with a sore throat, runny nose, and then turned into major congestion and coughing. I did not go to the doctor but took over the counter meds. It took me almost 3 weeks to feel better. Now I am experiencing the same symptoms again, except now I have a sore throat and major congestion. The coughing has not started yet and when I sneeze, nothing comes out of my nose. It's as if everything is stuck. I just started feeling better about a week ago before feeling sick again. What do you think this could be?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you started with suffering from Upper Respiratory Tract infection commonly known as common cold and sore throat, runny nose and cold is due to it and you have developed sinus infection or Sinusitis due to it and it is leading to congestion and coughing can be due to post nasal drip that is causing throat irritation..
You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and if sinusitis is suspected which looks most probable in your case he can advise you to get MRI or PNS View of the sinuses or Nasal Endoscopy done to confirm the cause and treatment can be planned accordingly..
For sinusitis he can advise you to take antibiotics like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, take decongestant like Pseudoephadrine [sudafed],, steam inhalation, saline nasal sprays, steroid nasal sprays and use a humidifier in your room..
For sore throat you can do warm saline gargles and suck throat lozenges..
Avoid spicy , hard and chilled foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
