What Is The Treatment For Severe Cough?

I am a 35 year old man. i am having severe coughing problem for the past one month which simply refuses to subside. The coughs are sometimes productive but lately have turned non productive. The sputum does not contain any blood. I have already taken 3 courses of antibiotics but to no avail. I was an avid smoker but have reduced significantly over the period of last one year with 2-3 smokes per day avg. My doctor says my chest sounds clear and have orderd TC DC ESR & HB. The results came normal. I have blood sugar and on medication. my last fasting result came at 102. i have a very healthy apatite and have gained 2 kg over the last 2 months and currently weigh 84 kg. I have head ache almost every day (since my childhood) and take paracitamol and caffine tablets. I dont get fever or feel weak and recently my voice have turned hoarse but do not have difficulty swallowing or any pain (feel some pain if exposed to direct airconditioning etc.) as such. Is there any possibility that I have developed lung or throat cancer??

Hello
After reading your query ,these symptoms may be due to these possibilities , these include:
1 Chronic laryngitis . Chronic laryngitis due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis is often difficult to distinguish from laryngeal cancer , in part because of the frequent absence of signs, symptoms & radiological findings typical of pulmonary disease.
Laryngitis is characterized by hoarseness of voice and can also be associated with reduced vocal pitch or aphonia ( in your case hoarseness present along other symptoms ). Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical examination by an E N T specialist with laryngoscope .
2 The next reason in your case may be due to uncomplicated allergic bronchitis .
Only physical examination as well as clinical examination by a physician will find out allergic bronchitis .
3 Asthmatic allergic cough may be the next reason of such cough . Physical examination by a physician will rule out asthma .
There are so many other reasons of such symptoms as , cancer , tuberculosis . In my opinion consult as mentioned above.
Good luck.
