What Is The Treatment For Redness In The Eye?

My wife accidentally splashed acetone in my eye. I flushed my eye with water keeping it open for a good 10-20 minutes but my eye keeps getting redder. there was no noticeable pain other than irritation at first but it has slowly gotten to the point that bright light causes searing pain. I have an eye patch on I picked up today along with eye drops and intend on going to the doctor as soon as I can make an appointment but do I need to go to the ER or wait for my doctor. I'm concerned about permanent eye damage.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that acetone was splashed into your eyes. This is chemical injury and requires immediate treatment. The treatment is by thorough washing the eyes with normal water. Since you are having sensitivity to light indicating damage to cornea you require antibiotics artificial tears eye drops at frequent intervals.
Since it is a chemical injury this requires examination by a ophthalmologist to grade the severity and treatment accordingly.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor at the earliest.

Thank you
