What Is The Treatment For Difficulty In Controlling The Bladder?

I have always had bladder control issues even as a young child. When I had my hysterectomy about 4.5 years ago the Dr. said that while she was in there she also inserted a balloon type device into my bladder to help enlarge so that I could hold more. Well in the past two months I have gone from sometimes not being able to make it to restroom to today when I had to break down and purchase feminine pads for leakage. I can not make it to the restroom at all unless I am standing right there. I called my GYN and made an apt to see him the soonest that he could see me was 4/22. I feel like this is a type of emeregency I am 38 yrs old I should not be wetting my clothes 3-4 times a day. I need some input on this. Also in between my pelvic bones directly in the center is pain that comes and goes. But when it come it is intense for like 30sec then fades.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of urge incontinence/overactive bladder. It can occur due to several conditions like urinary tract infection, interstitial cystitis, bladder stones, etc. Urine analysis and culture, cystometry are recommended an initial evaluation. So please follow up with your primary provider who may refer you to a urologist for detailed evaluation. Meanwhile, limit caffeine and alcohol intake.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
