What Is The Treatment For Chronic Fibromyalgia?

Hi, I live in Fresno, CA and have Calviva through Medi-cal health insurance through the state of California. My daughter and I have only been here for 6 months, from Phoenix, AZ. I am in need of a pain doctor, because I have had chronic Fibromyalgia, since late "2005". I take narcotic pain meds. I called my insurance company to see what pain doctors are in Fresno that accept the current insurance that I have. They gave me a list, so I started calling all on the list. Each and every one I called said that they no longer accept state kinds of insurance, and I would have to pay cash. I am separated going through divorce from a disabled man on SS monthly check. I cannot get any financial help from him. I am un-employed and actively looking, to secure better insurance that a pain dr will take here in Fresno. Right now I am being treated with pain meds by a local doctor, he also doesn't take insurance either. It costs me a lot of money each month to see him, I cannot continue to afford, but I have to because of my chronic pain, along with other physical disabilities. What other areas near Fresno should I try??? like: Madera, vasilla,??? could I technically go to the
ER every month and get meds that way????

Hello,
Thanks for your query.
The cause of fibromyalgia is not known. The universal symptom of fibromyalgia is pain. As mentioned earlier, the pain in fibromyalgia is not caused by tissue inflammation. Instead, these patients seem to have an increased sensitivity to many different sensory stimuli and an unusually low pain threshold. Minor sensory stimuli that ordinarily would not cause pain in individuals can cause disabling, sometimes severe pain in patients with fibromyalgia. The body pain of fibromyalgia can be aggravated by noise, weather change, and emotional stress.
The diagnosis of fibromyalgia is made purely on clinical grounds based on the doctor's history and physical examination.
Treatment programs are most effective when they combine patient education, stress reduction, regular exercise, and medications.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
