Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi... Very good evening.. My husband is 26 years old with 5'9'' height and weight is 99kgs. When we checked his BP it is about 140/100. Please help the how to bring BP to normal. And his family medical history has heart problems, I doubt this may bother him in later stages. Please help me.
Both the systolic (the top reading) and the diastolic (the bottom reading) are abnormal.
Hypertension can be managed with lifestyle changes and medication if needed.
The lifestyle changes involve: (1) weight loss of any excess weight due diet changes and exercise. At present his weight is too much for his height. He would need to reduce the use of sodas/fruit juices INcrease use of water Increase the use of fruits/vegetables/salads Reduce carbohydrate portion sizes Reduce any alcohol use
(2)reduce salt intake
(3)exercise regularly- it is normally recommended for at least 3 to 5 times a week for at least 150 minutes total each week
If the lifestyle changes are not enough to reduce the blood pressure then his doctor would start medication. Keeping the blood pressure normal would reduce his risk of heart disease and stroke.
I hope this helps
