What Is The Treatment For A Toenail Infection?

Hi, I have toenail infection, first time ever. Don't even know how I got it. My doctor gave me Adco-Sporozole to drink. My doctor told me to drink it for 1 week and then be off it for three weeks, repeat 3 times. Why do you take a break for so long after taking it for a week?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from toenail infection that occurs commonly due to causes like bacterial or fungal infection..
This condition is known as PARONYCHIA..

It can occur due to conditions like traumatic injury to the side of the nail like while washing clothes or dishwashing, injury while cutting nail, nail biting habit etc, overzealous manicure etc..

Adco Sporozole is an antifungal agent but is not generally given treat toenail infection and break in the course is given to prevent side effects as
well as development of resistence in the organisms causing infection..

I would therefore suggest you to consult a General Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation is generally sufficient for diagnosis..

You can be advised to apply a combination of steroid, antibiotic and antifungal ointment over it..
If it is painful topical application of numbing ointment and taking anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen can help..
Do cool compresses over it..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
