What Is The Remedy For A Red,round And Skin Inflammatory Growing Under My Lip?
I have a red, round, skin inflammatory growing under my lip. It sometimes tickles, and i have a feeling it will turn into a cold sore. I have had bacterial infections on my lips before and i was prescribed Mupirocin Ointment about 2 years ago to heal them and it worked very well. I still have the ointment, would it be a good idea for me to use it on my forming cold sore? Please help.
Cold sores are recurrent and usually people can recognise that it is going to develop by the prodromal symptoms, because they notice tingling or tickling feeling at the site before the cold sore develops.
Cold sores are usually self resolving within 5-7 days. Mupirocin 2% ointment is an anti-bacterial and the purpose of prescribing it is only to prevent secondary bacterial infection over the developing cold sore otherwise it wont help in resolution of cold sore.
In my practice i advice my patients of recurrent cold sores to take an anti-viral orally as soon as they notice the prodromal symptoms of a developing cold sore e,g valacyclovir 2gm twice daily for just one day to arrest it progression.
take care regards
