What Is The Painful Pitting Edema On The Shin?

My child has an abrasion on her shin that we initially thought could be a bug bite. Now her calf is swollen and painful. The suspected bite now looks like an abrasion but we are worried it could be something serious. There is some pitting edema and she says it hurts to the touch

Hi there,
Thanks for posting here,
Your daughter appears to have an insect bite reaction. Insects do carry bacteria in their mouth parts, so chances of bacterial infection is there. She might have a cellulitis too. You need to meet a dermatologist/ physician who will start antibiotic and analgesics as per her body weight. Locally you can apply an antibiotic cream like mupirocin.
Hope this helps you,
Regards,
