What Is The Life Expectancy Of A Person With Damaged Kidneys And Weak Heart?
My dad has CHF, has had stints put in and his heart function was at 30%. Today after being in the hospital for a few days with shortness of breath and fluid build up they did a stress test. The heart Dr. said that his heart function was at 15 to 20% and his kidneys are damaged and that his heart is to weak to consider a heart cath. He is alert but gets winded very easy and wakes up short of breath. How long does a person live with this type of health issue?
As per my clinical experience, the life expectancy of a person depends upon multiple parameters over and above the cardio-respiratory status like: - Nutritional status - Extent of kidney damage - Comorbid conditions as diabetes, atherosclerosis, high BP or else - Current active smoking - Hydration level - Daily liquid intake - Punctuality with current medications In a nutshell, through a very detailed evaluation of patient with clinical examination and correlation with all available data, which can make one consultant to utter for possible life expectancy from this stage.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
