What Is The Cure For Swollen Painful Tonsil With Mild Sore Throat?
One swollen tonsil for about 3 weeks. I am a light (3-7 ciggs a day) smoker and have mild sore throat. There were white patches, which are gone as is the ear infection. The tonsil has mild pain that has gotten better. I am on antibiotics that are not helping with swelling.
Hi and thanks for the query, Swelling of the tonsil will come down once the infection subsides. Residual swelling will remain if the tonsil has been repeatedly infected. If the swelling does not come down at all it means that the organism is not sensitive to the antibiotic and needs to be changed. Do not worry, I am sure that you will be alright. See the doctor again if the swelling persists. In the meantime keep doing warm salt water gargling 4 times daily, drink plenty of fluids and avoid cold foods and air conditioning. Regards, Dr Kishori.
