What Is The Cure For Discoid Eczema On Buttocks?

i have discoid eczema on my buttocks. my doctor has prescribed locoid lipocream which i have been using with an emmolient first for 5 days. there is no difference. have long should i wait before i go back to my gp. is there anything else that i can do. i am a 43 year old female and have never had any form of skin problem before.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Discoid eczema is prone to develop on dry skin.

I usually advice my patients of discoid eczema to apply a moisturizer specially the one containing Urea(10% or 20%) OR Ammnium lactate(12% cream or lotion). Urea and ammonium lactate are humectants and keratolytics. They not only reduce the scaling of lesions but also absorb moisture from the atmosphere and trap it inside the skin.

Along with the moisturizer i usually ask my patients to use a potent steroid cream containing either clobetasol or halobetasol to be applied only over the patches over and above the moisturizer.

Locoid is a very mild steroid and is usually not effective for discoid patches.

An oral antihistamine once daily like cetrizine will help control the itching.

Soaps should be avoided as much as possible.
