What Is The Correct Dose Of Metroclopramide For Vomiting And Heart Burn?

Hi - The MD recommended taking both metroclopramide (5mg) and promethegan (25mg Supp) for a 60+ year old diabetic female. The treatment is for allowing her to not vomit and have heart burn type chest issues. Does this seem a bit too strong for this application?

Hello,
Thank you for asking your question at health care magic.

Promethazine 25 mg suppository and 5mg metoclopramide are not too high doses.

However metoclopramide should only be taken for a maximum of 12 weeks continuously,as it can cause a movement disorder
Metoclopramide should also be taken half an hour before meals.
Discuss with your regarding when to discontinue metoclopramide.

If serious side effects like Convulsions (seizures),fast/slow heart beat, blurry vision, mood changes and hallucinations ,increased sweating, muscle stiffness, difficulty moving neck/eye,confusion, dizziness occur while on these medications immediately go the emergency room.

Hope I was able to answer your questions
Please feel free to address any more concerns

Dr.Lekshmi
