What Is The Cause Of Infected Blister On Side?

Hi. I developed an infected blister on my side, possibly caused by a heating pad or my back brace. It started as a painful red spot and got worse and much more painful by yesterday. Today while in the bath, it was oozing pus. I already knew it was infected because there was reddish welt-like line extending out sideways and the area was painful. I put antibiotic ointment on it and covered it. Now it is much less painful but still pretty red. I'm concerned about the infection since it didnt get infected after bursting, it formed as an infected blister. What would have caused this and how concerned should I be?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about infection that you have. Because the margins of the red line is increasing, it means there is an active infection that is probably extending. I will suggest that you get this wound examined and managed adequately which consists in wound care and antibiotics. Also, you may want to use Tylenol for pain control. A primary care doctor should be able to help address this adequately.

I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for using our services and please feel free to ask for clarifications if need be. I wish you the best of health.
