hi i,m 52. my tg is 350 . my fbs 214. i look quite normal.lipid level are quite acceptable . what is the best medication you respectable doctors recommend? i , m taking glyburide 3 times jimfibrozll also and metformin too?what,s your best advice you proficient doctors can offer?
Dear Sir/ Madam Thanks for your query to HCM. A triglyceride level of 350 mg% need not be treated with drugs always. Most of the guidelines advise life style modification only up to levels of 500 mg%. More so , when it appears that high triglyceride level is secondary to high glucose levels (FBS of 214 mg%). You need to get your high blood sugar levels treated first and follow the life style modifications (LSM). LSM include avoiding smoking and alcohol, weight control, avoiding too much of carbohydrates and saturated fats, daily supervised exercise. Even after good control of sugar levels and LSM, if the triglyceride levels remain that high, we consider drug therapy. sincerely Sukhvinder
