What Is Causing My Bowel Incontinence?

49 yo male, 174 pounds, hiv+ 22 years (undetectable), not sexually active for 5 years. Neuropathy in feet and legs is only problem. I get occasional brown mucus out of anus not associated with bowel movement, sometimes with gas. I also started having bowel incontenence where I feel my underwear is wet and go to the bathroom and some soft stool came out. This is happening more often it seems. What could be wrong and are the associated with each other?

Hello

Thank you for trusting HCM

Dear common possible causes are

1.Muscle damage: muscles around the anal ring may get damaged lead to incontinence.
2.Nerve damage:seen in during labour or injury or multiple sclerosis or spinal cord compression etc..
3.chronic constipation: lead to mass of impacted dry stools may lead to incontinence.

4.Diarrhea
5.Surgery
6.Radiation
7.Rectocele etc..

I think you may be suffering from nerve compression in the spinal cord may be the cause.

Please consult your neurophysician and get it done MRI spine and get treated accordingly.

Take care.
