What Is A Painful Lump On My Daughter's Head That Bleeds Followed By A Yellow Liquid With Pressure On It?

Thought I was pulling out a tiny splinter on a painful lump on my daughters head. It came out with a a chunk of something. After that came out, quite a bit of blood and a little yellow liquid followed. It's been about three weeks and now she has a bald spot the size of a nickel. A dermatologist thought it may have been a cyst but all the research I've done says if it was a cyst the stuff that came out should have been white. Any thoughts?

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM.

I would keep a possibility of either a furuncle/scalp folliculitis OR an infected Sebaceous cyst.

In such a scenario it is advisable to take an oral antibiotic for a week to resolve any infection that may still be persisting.

A topical antibiotic ointment twice daily would help in addition.

Bald spot is because of temporary resting phase of the hair follicles in that area and it should regrow new hairs after some time.

take care
