What Indicates Tiny Black Spots On Nipples Of A 17 Year Old?

Hi! My daughter who will be 17 in a week noticed tiny black spots on her nipples, they came off, no blood, thought they were blackheads or something. Only on the nipples, not the areolas. She's on birth control pills but isn't having sex so couldn't be pregnant. What could this be? I've never had this happen to myself.

OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

It is normal to have blackheads there. If you get them regularly and it bothers you, try washing with a gentle soap in the area. However, if you notice a rash or bump near your nipple or areola that’s red and scaly, call your doctor. It could be no biggie, or it could be a sign of something called Paget's disease of the nipple, a rare form of breast cancer that causes cancer cells to collect in or around the nipple.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Richa Agarwal, OBGYN
