What Does Weakness In The Hands Indicate?

On both of my hands I had lost grip in my fingers. I have had physical therapy and gone to an orthropidic surgeon and he is prescribing further physical therapy. No diagnosis has been made. Almost 3 months ago I over did it in a race and all my muscle contracted and has taken several months to return to normal 3 to 6 miles run. The latest is my grip in my fingers have been significantly lost. Lab test have been done with negative results. What up dr.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Weakness in the hands may be due to

1. Peripheral neuropathy seen in leprasy or demyelinating disease or led toxicity etc.
2. Ulnar nerve palsy , or carpal tunnel syndrome etc.
3.Muscular dystrophy etc.
4. myasthenia gravis or motor neuron disease etc.
5. multiple sclerosis.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Need to consult your neurophysician he will examine and do MRI spine, nerve conduction study, and electromyography then treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
