Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My ultrasound impression states mildly heterogeneous and echogenic liver echotexture, possibly due to fatty infiltration but which is nonspecific in appearance. My physician said I have what they call a fatty liver but that I shouldn t be concerned since my liver enzymes which have been slightly elevated in the past were both normal in the latest labs (AST - 24; ALT - 21). He concluded we would keep an eye on the situation. Your interpretation is appreciated...thank you.
Fatty liver disease the accumulation of the fat in the liver. The liver is the second biggest organ in the human body. It is the major organ of metabolism. It helps in processing dietary nutrients and also compensates the energy needs of the body.
Fat deposition in the liver affects the normal functioning of the organ which in turn affects the normal physiological functions in the body. Proper diet and physical activity decreases the chances of fatty liver. It also helps in recovering from the fatty liver disease. Yearly screening is necessary to follow up the disease status. The stages of fatty liver disease are fatty liver, scarring, fibrosis and cirrhosis.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
