Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does The Following Vaginal Ultrasound Report Indicate?
Hi, I m Cel, I am supposed to be 9 weeks pregnant but based on my trans-vaginal ultrasound result, I have single intrauterine pregnancy with gestational sac with mean measurement of 1.6 cm consistent with 5 weeks and 6 days. There is no yolk sac and embryonic pole, Myometrium shows a homogeneous echo pattern with no focal mass lesion seen. Please help on how to understand the result better. Thank you
Based on the description of your report it states that the gestational age of ultrasound scan doesn't match with the calculations as per your last menstrual period dates.
It is indicating about 4 weeks less than expected. Since there is no yolk sac or embryonic pole at this stage, you can wait for another week and take a scan as identified at six to six-and-half weeks.
However, it is quite normal for the fetal pole to not be visible until about 9 weeks. Once the fetal pole is visible and there is appearance of cardiac activity, it can be termed as pregnancy to be viable.
Kindly do the necessary follow-up with your doctor for appropriate advise.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
General & Family Physician
