What Does The Following Ultrasound Report Suggest?

I ve had irregular bleeding for a couple years. No ins. Finally got ins. dr ordered a full ultrasound on all organs because of hip, abdominal and groin pain, as well as irregular bowel movements and stools. An abdominal check caused me pain on left side . He wants to do colonoscopy. Did blood and urine culture. Waiting to see gyno. Results have been back for several days and no call. I m experiencing occasional pain in kidney region and I saw dark spots on pancreas. Also saw lots of tumors in uterus (I know not uncommon for woman nearing end of change. Dr hasn t called about any results, good or bad, should I be concerned?

Hi,
Thank you for contacting me at ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Irregular menstrual bleeding in your case it seems like is caused by Uterine Fibroids , the "tumors in your uterus". These small benign tumors cause lots of vaginal bleeding and pain in your lower abdomen during your menstrual cycle or between your periods. The good news is these tumors shrink after menopause, bleeding and pain gradually decreases. I believe you are premenopause "woman nearing end of change"- correct me if i am wrong. Uterine fibrioids usually do not turn to cancer. So, you should not be worried at this time.

Regarding your left side abdominal pain, there are many reasons that cause that pain. The most common cause is constipation that gets better by drinking water, exercise and eating foods high in fiber. In your case, depending on your age, a colonoscopy is indicated as a screening test for colorectal cancer in all caucasian/white people starting at 45-50 years old and in african americans around 40-45 years of age. Colonoscopy is a great not painful procedure to check and remove polyps ( benign tumors) and do biopsy on some of them to early diagnose colon cancer and treat it at an early stage.

Regarding your pancreas, those dark spots might be pancreatic cysts that are filled with fluid which gives the "dark spot image" in abdominal ultrasound. They give back pain that you are experiencing. at the kidney region. These are benign cysts most of the time.

To summarize, my advise to you is:

1. Do not worry until you get the full abdominal US report, blood and urine tests from your doctor.
2. Take stool sample for occult blood test and Do the colonoscopy if you are between 40-50 years old (see above). Follow with a GI specialist for this matter.
3. Regarding your uterine fibroids follow with your GYN doctor.

I hope i answer your query. Let me know if I can assist you further

Kind regards,
