Hi, Endometrial polyp are the growth from the inner wall of the uterus. Endometrium is the inside lining of the uterus. Excess growth of the cells in the lining forms polyps. Uterine polyps are usually non cancerous. Sometime, it may turned out to be a precancerous. Common cause for the formation of endometrial polyp is hormonal imbalance. Oestrogen is the hormone responsible for endometrial growth between the menstrual cycle. Excess stimulation of the lining may produce endometrial polyp. Symptoms include irregular menstrual cycle, heavy bleeding, bleeding in between the periods, bleeding in menopausal women. In reproductive age group, it is one of the causes for infertility. Diagnosed by transvaginal ultrasound, hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy. Management involves wait and watch for recession, medications such as progesterone which has opposite effect on endometrium or hysteroscopic excision. Discuss with your Doctor about the management.
