What Does Severe Pain In The Abdomen Indicate?

My son is 22 and in good health. He is experiencing terrible pain in his stomach shortly after eating. It sometimes lasts for several hours. He doesn t eat a lot of fatty or greasy foods, nor much soda. There are times when he is forced to vomit when he wakes up in the morning with a nausea stomach. Not sure what s going on. Any suggestions?

Thanks for contacting with your health concern

1. As I'm unable to examine you directly thus going by the history of
- pain after eating/nausea/vomiting.. it probably could range from heartburn/ gallstones/appendicitis to peptic ulcer

2. Consult with a Gastroenterologist who may be able to diagnose the cause of your stomach pain and ask for necessary examinations like endoscopy, blood examination, X-ray, CT scan & MRI, till then

- avoid undue mental stress
- avoid spicy/oily food and reduce caffeine/alcohol intake
- drink lots of water, both with meals and in between them

3. Although it could turn out to be simple indigestion or heartburn which might get benefitted from OTC medications, but consult with your primary care doctor since sometimes there may be an underlying medical condition/situation which needs appropriate treatment.
