What Does Redness Around A Shingles Vaccination Site Indicate?

I received the shingles vaccine 2 days ago and have a redden sensitive area approx 6inches x 3 inches at the injection site. It looks and feels like a very bad sun burn. Last night I had a very severe sore throat which is no longer present. Are these normal reactions from the immunization?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to side effects of the shingles vaccine. It is as normal as it can be so you should not be worried. I suggest you use cool compresses at the area for local relief.

I also suggest you to use anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen three times a day in case of pain or fever.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
