What Does Pain In Neck Radiating Down To The Whole Body Suggest?

For the past 9 days, I have had pain all over my body from the neck down. It seems to be in the muscles and joints. I do have diabetes, but this pain is not burning or tingling in my extremities. It is a deep aching feeling that has incapacitated me. I am able to do only basic necessities; otherwise, I hurt too much to do anything strenuous. I also have osteoarthritis; I take medications for several things and have had to take pain medication just to be able to function. My neck is my major concern since the pain seems to begin there and radiate downward. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi there!
The pain you describe fits with Cervical Spondylosis where one of your cervical vertebrae has slipped from its spot and impinges on the spinal cord and causes symptoms. now usually it is due to age related degeneration of the cervical vertebrae and is fairly common.
I suggest you start with a Physician consult first followed by an xray of the cervical spine in AP (anteroposterior) and lateral views which should point out the cause in most cases.
If it doesnt show anything then a MRI of the Cervical spine might help.
Since you're a diabetic you should stay off NSAID pain meds like Ibuprofen Or Diclofenac.
You might benefit with Pregabalin 75 mg twice a day to begin with and once a day at night after a week. You can also add Methylcobalamin supplements with it. It needs a week or so to start showing effects.
It causes drowsiness for the first few days so i suggest to stay away from driving or operating heavy machinery.
However this is only till the time when you can consult a doctor in person so that a detailed physical evaluation will benefit greatly.
Avoid lifting heavy weights.
The other possibility is Viral arthralgia or post viral syndrome but it is usually accompanied or preceded by a cold, sore throat etc.
Fibromyalagia too can cause this. This can be elicited during a physical examination by triggering tender points on your body.
Hopefully this helps.
