What Does Hard Cervix Indicate?

I went to my obgyn 2 weeks ago. She made the comment that my cervix was really hard. Had a lot of questions at the time so i did not address that. I am 39 with 5 children. Now that comment is bothering me. I did schedule a follow up visit, but want a little insight beforehand.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Hard cervix is indicative that you are not ovulating at that particular date when you had your per vaginal examination done. Cervix becomes soft when you are pregnant. Before periods when not pregnant it may feel firm or hard. During follicular phase the body prepares the uterine lining for fertilized egg to attach. Estrogen levels are low and hence, your cervix feels firmer. Estrogen will make it feel softer as your menstrual cycle progresses.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
