What does central disc protrusion and increased size of disc protrusion mean?
What exactly does this mean?
New small broad-based central disc protrusion and increased size of the small right sided posterolateral disc protrusion and annular tear at L4-5 resulting in mild right sided neural foraminal stenosis without central canal spinal stenosis. Correlation for right sided L4 radiculopathy symptoms recommended.
The report says that the disc is moved / slipped posteriorly and laterally and there is an annular tear noted at the level of L4-5 resulting ( mass effect on the ) in the stenosis of the central spinal canal ( spinal cord with in the canal).
The disc is structure between the vertebral bodies - when these discs loos the water content and slips posteriorly and causing mass effect on the nerve and spinal chord causing various symptoms. ( this happens most commonly age related and trauma and excessive usage).
Depending on the symptoms the treatment starts with simple back exercises followed by the physiotherapy - if doesn't work finally operative / interventional procedure is treatment of choice. Good luck.
