Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do You Suggest For Hernia That Started To Pop Through Again?
I had umbilical hernia and had operation January 2012 by key hole surgery by March 2013 the hernia stared to pop through again and now is probably as big as it ever was before operation. Although it has never been sore this time round it has become itchy at times recently. I do a lot of exercise tennis, golf gym work and cycling etc and do weights and don't get pain from hernia. Should I go to specialist again and get new surgery? I am aged 51 and love my sport and am afraid of surgery again not working. Should I soldier on or get another repair and would the repair have to be main surgery rather than key hole ? Any advice would be appreciated please. David Sledmere
typically surgery is recommended if there is pain from the hernia- the main risk from hernia is that parts of the intestines herniated out through the gap in the muscles of the abdominal wall and cannot get back into the abdomen. this condition called incarceration causes pain and can cause loss of blood flow to the intestine necessitating emergency surgery. if you experience any pain then I would consult a surgeon as this would be the indication that you may need another surgery.
