Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 80 yr old father was prescribed an oxygen concentrator for sleep by one physician a while ago. He has emphysema. His primary physician wants him off oxygen at night and we are now monitoring his pulse ox while asleep without the concentrator. What is a normal reading vs. one that is questionable?
hi, The patients with emphysema can tolerate hypoxia better than normal individuals. In general, for them a spo2 above 90% is safe (and is often difficult to achieve). A value below 85 should alert you for an intervention. hope this helped.
