What Do You Suggest For Emphysema?

My 80 yr old father was prescribed an oxygen concentrator for sleep by one physician a while ago. He has emphysema. His primary physician wants him off oxygen at night and we are now monitoring his pulse ox while asleep without the concentrator. What is a normal reading vs. one that is questionable?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi,
The patients with emphysema can tolerate hypoxia better than normal individuals. In general, for them a spo2 above 90% is safe (and is often difficult to achieve). A value below 85 should alert you for an intervention.
hope this helped.
