What Do You Suggest For Bunions On The Outer Side Of Both Big Toes?

Hi Dr. Grief,
I am 39 years of age and are currently having problems with both feet. I have bunions on the outer side of both big toes, and both my second and third toes on both feet are all claw like to the point where I am actually walking upon the skin underneath my toenails. My fourth toe on both sides is twisted and out of shape at around 60 degrees, however, the worst are both my little toes which are at probably 90 degrees and are so uncomfortable to walk upon etc and they cause pain, numbness, and alot of odema in my feet. I truly hate wearing shoes or runners, which I do not wear runners if I do not have to, and I only wear shoes when I have to also. I generally only wear thongs (flip flops) in an attempt to relieve the pain from the different angles etc that my toes are at. I am about to go to an orthopaedic surgeon, as my GP thinks that I will have to have my little toes amputated and all of the joints will have to be replaced in my second and thirds toes and my big toes are bent inwards as well as the bunions. I was wondering what your opinion of what types of surgery you may think will have to happen. I realise that you are restricted in providing answers due to not being able to see me in person, but any answer or advice that you could provide to myself I would be greatly appreciative.
Thank you for all of your time and effort. I greatly appreciate it.

Kind Regards,
Justin Wooldock

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

I have read your query. You have hammer toe and bunions.

You need to get physically examined by doctor who may advise you surgery depend upon condition of patient , it may include removing g soft tissue or bone or both around toe joint to straightened the joint.

The easiest way to avoid these painful toe problems is to make sure you wear special shoes for hammertoes. Shoes for people with Hammertoe should have a wide toe box to avoid crowding of the toes. Shoe inserts, orthotic inserts, and products to keep toes separated, such as gel toe separators and toe caps are also effective in providing relief from pain and discomfort.

I hope you have got your answer.

you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
