Hi,

Thanks for the query.
These are common problems during pregnancy and are also related to hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. I understand that you are worried as you are taking too many drugs.

Endogest is a hormonal preparation and it causes such gastrointestinal upset. I suggest that you take micronised progesterone vaginal soft gel tablets. They can be inserted in the vagina once a day and do not cause any adverse effects. Also lower doses can be used as they are inserted close to the place where they need to act.

For the gases problems, I suggest that you try to modify your diet. Take clear soups and completely cooked food [especially raw salads and food with lots of seeds, as seeds cause gases ] as it is easier to digest. Avoid food rich in fat especially food with cheese and cream milk and if you eat non vegetarian food try steamed fish or boiled egg whites as they provide proteins and are easy to digest. Take small frequent meals to help digestion. Addition of toned milk yogurt also helps improve digestion.

You can use pantoprazole if you are having heart burn or acidity, but I would suggest a short walk in the morning and evening would help in releasing gases better than drugs.

I completely support your idea of minimal use of drugs during pregnancy. Please do not worry about the baby so much now as these drugs are mostly class B meaning that no formal human studies are available to know effects but experience does not show any adverse effects on the baby.

In our clinical practice I have not encountered any effect due to these drugs. Still I suggest you try the home remedies first, if they do not work resort to using medicines.

Hope I was able to answer your query. Feel free to ask more.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a safe pregnancy.
