What Do Red Bumps On The Scalp Indicate?

I have what seems like little red lumps on my scalp for at least a month. Wouldn t consider it a rash persay. Tingle, Itch, lump, then scratch to find a little tiny hard substance. A good many, mostly on the crown. May be related, recent hair loss thinning also. General MD told me not to worry, last month would go away. Doesn t!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

A very common condition that might cause itchy lumps on scalp is fungal infection so it is important to use some shampoo against fungal infection (with Fluconazole 2%). You will need to apply it for 5-10 minutes on the scalp before you rinse it off and you will need to use it at least every other day.

If no improvement you might need oral antifungal to control it and a doctor prescription might be needed after your doctor has examined your hair. It is important to have a check with your doctor before having oral antifungals because they are generally taken for more than 3 months and may have adverse effects so a check is needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
