Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a random glucose level reading of 120 at 10:10 am at my doctors in October.. All previous ones done done in my physicals and earlier in Februrary this year were always 95 to 103. She said we will look into it. Should I be alarmed? And what kinds of things can I do to control It? Any chance it is a false positive. Other levels off were platelet count 147 below low normal, white blood cell count 11.8 above high normal, neutrophil absolute 10.26 above high normal and lymphocyte absolute .84 below low normal. thank you. cancelling due to cost. sorry!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The fact that previous values have been good and this is the only one above 110 than very likely this is an incidental finding. On the other hand diabetes is diagnosed if fasting glucose is 126 or above in at least 2 measurements. It is good though to follow up in the future. If you have an HbA1C test under 6.5% it is very likely you are not having diabetes. As for the CBC if you are not having fever or other complaint, just repeat the test in 3-4 weeks to make sure the values go back to norm. If you have fever than the values might be due to a certain infection you might be having so you will need a visit with your doctor to examine you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
