What Do Dark Colored Stools And Severe Diarrhea Indicate?
I have dark colored stools. Look like coffee grounds. This started last night with severe diarrhea. Stopped this morning, didn t eat very much today. Just had another bout awhile ago. I had colon cancer in October 2013 . Cancer free since then and have been okay within reason since then . Other complications .... I have Factor Five lieden and have a PVT and I m on aspirin 81 mg a day . Is there anything that would make my stools that dark besides blood. Any foods? The local hospital is shit and I can speak from first hand experience . I doctor with Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and James Cancer Center which is about 115 miles away. Not really in any pain in stomach or bowels.

Hello,
Blackness in the stools usually means blood but iron supplements and pepto bismol can also cause it. Bright red bleeding is from the lower tract or colon and dark blood usually means bleeding from the upper tract (stomach). You may have an ulcer or something else going on. Please see your doctor as soon as possible
