What Could Numbness In Foot And Painful Groin Post Alcohol Intake Indicate?

Hi, I am 37 years old and have recently been on 5 day binge drinking session with my friends. I lost feeling in my right foot after 3rd day and my legs were aching all this morning. My leg pain has now dissapeared allthough i still can t feel my left foot and my groins are hurting and feel like they are on fire! My lymph nodes are not inflamed or sore to touch. I am generally fit and not a big drinker. I also recently had STD tests which were all clear allthough I need to go for more in May to be 100 percent with more serious infections such as hepititus. Doctor thinks anything serious is highly unlikely.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Numbness in the foot and pain in the groin after alcohol intake could indicate nerve damage or compression. Alcohol can affect the nervous system and lead to nerve damage or compression, which can cause numbness and pain in different parts of the body. Additionally, alcohol can also cause dehydration, which can lead to muscle cramps and aches.

However, it is important to note that these symptoms could also be a sign of a more serious condition, such as peripheral neuropathy or a hernia. It is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider for an evaluation and proper diagnosis. They may perform a physical examination and order diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, imaging studies, or nerve conduction studies, to determine the cause of your symptoms and recommend the appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
