What Could Heart Palpitations Suggest?

Hello, I am 27 years old and I have been experiencing heart palpitations/irregular heartbeats for about a week and a half. It is not everyday, but when it does occur...it lasts for several hours. I have an appointment scheduled with my doctor, but is this something serious I need to worry about?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I would like to tell you that heart palpitations commonly happens because of anemia, dehydration or nutritional deficiencies and rarely can be because of heart condition. Its recommended for you to get following tests done:
1. CBC
2. Vitamin B 12
3. F/PPBS, HbA1c
4.Thyroid profile
5. ECG & Echocardiography
Consult with a physician for physical evaluation and further management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhanu Partap
