What Could Cause Clicking Of Sternum?

When I press on the bottom of my sternum (where my lungs meet), it pops/clicks. Not just once, but it will pop constantly (as many times as I push it). I ve read online this could be a possible hernia or arthritis. Any idea what this could be? (no pain is involved, nor did anything happen to cause this)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite common and probably due to a ligament problem.

Nothing much to worry and it does not have any clinical significance.

You can plan for a CT thorax for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
