What Could Be The Reason For Having Dark Brown Reddish Discharge?

I recently I had a UTI I took medication for it and it went away. Then afterwards I'm having unusually white thick discharge with no smell and some itching, I put anti itch cream on my vagina and it stopped. But not I'm having dark brown reddish spotting or discharge. I do take birth control and have been for 5 years and I am sexual active. Can you please tell me what's wrong?

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

You apparently have either a fungal (yeast-candida) infection or a mixed one (due to yeast + bacterial + trichomonia). Examination of vaginal discharge will identify the causative organism and, the treatment would be given accordingly.

Dark, reddish brown discharge may either be due to bleeding from the infection-induced inflammation of inner wall of vagina.

However, if your period was due, then it could be part of menstruation.


Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me, order required test, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable treatment as advised.
