What Could Be The Outcome Of Balloon Sphinterotomy For Elevated Bilirubin?

my father aged 69 years and 6 months underwent lapcholecystectomy, cbd exploration and stent is placed in may 2009. he was reluctant and delayed ERCP. ten days ago he had vomitings and elevated bilirubin levels and he is admitted in the hosp. ERCP is done, a new plastic cbd stent is placed, two stones of 0.5mm came out during procedure on 08-02-2011 and advised balloon spinchterotomy afler 5 weeks. please explain possible outcome of balloon sphinterotomy and details of hospitals at tirupati in india

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

It is obvious that your father had multiple stones in common bile duct which caused complicated clinical scenario and after these procedures there is always a possibility that there is retained stone or again or that stenosis of bile duct occur. This is why baloon sphinterotomy should be done to dilate bile duct. This is much less risky procedure compared to ERCP and surgery so you should not be worried about complications.
